It’s time for another round of my favorite things! I’m pretty excited about these products so be sure to read on and find out why…
Vital Proteins Collagen:
Collagen is responsible for giving skin elasticity, hair its strength, and connective tissue its ability to hold everything in place. It makes up about 30% of the total protein in your body, and 70% in your skin! We begin to lose the ability to produce it as we age. The skin begins to lose elasticity in a process called elastosis. All this tends to give a person more signs of aging and acquired wrinkles. Boo.
The good news is that these changes do not seem to be permanent or irreversible! A double-blind placebo study conducted a couple years ago found that women who took collagen hydrolysate (the peptide form) regularly for 8 weeks saw a 20% reduction in wrinkles. It’s been shown to help your joints, improve digestion, amp up tendon and bone strength, increase athletic performance, and improve sleep. Whew!
The Vital Proteins brand is exciting because of how carefully they source their ingredients and how many options they have. Typically, I like the unflavored stuff so I can add it to anything and it won’t change the flavor of what I’m eating or drinking.
How to use it? There are a few flavors out there now so you can experiment, but just plain ol’ collagen really doesn’t have a flavor so I usually put it in my smoothie. You can also dissolve it in hot water, add it to soup, stir it into yogurt. There’s so many ways. Experiment and have fun! And remember, it takes awhile for it to work so stick with it.
This natural alternative to plastic is the bees knees (ha, couldn’t help it!). Made with organic cotton, beeswax, organic jojoba oil, and tree resin, it’s reusable, washable and you can compost it. I wrap just about everything but meat in it. You can use it to cover bowls, wrap sandwiches, and zip out the door with snacks on the go. It’s a total no brainer!
The Seaweed Company Firming Detox Cream:
I can’t get enough of this lotion! Made with seaweed, green coffee and tea extract, and hyaluronic acid, it’s loaded with minerals, anti-oxidants, detoxifying agents, and helps to strengthen the skin. Also, I swear it gives my skin a bit of a glimmery glow, so you gotta love that.
I’m sure you’ve heard of this by now, but I love this stuff and have been enjoying it for breakfast many days of the week. Why? For the steady, lasting energy! The saturated fat in grass fed butter slows the absorption of caffeine so instead of getting a spike with a crash, you get sustained energy all day. The MCT oil balances ghrelin and CCK, your hunger hormones, keeping you full until lunch and you will use fat, instead of sugar, for fuel!
Dave Asprey, the Bulletproof creator, claims this also does all kinds of other incredible things for your brain and for fat loss, but I’m not 100% sure it does all it claims to do. I like the taste, it does help the caffeine crash effect, AND it helps me get my medium chain fats in (you can sub coconut oil in for MCT if you want and get a similar benefit)! It’s a triple whammy and easy on-the-go breakfast.
